Brazil National Squad Heads to Peru

The 2014 South American Championships will take place in Lima, Peru over the Easter period, 17-20 April. Brasil will be represented by their national women’s and men’s squads to take on teams from Argentina, Chile, Peru and Mexico. This is the first time the two tournaments will be played concurrently. All matches will be played in the Twenty20 format.

The women’s competition, WSAC, is in its fourth official year. Prior to its inception in 2010, there were matches beween Brasil and Argentina going back to 2007. This year, these two teams will shape up again, with hosts Peru comprising the third team.

There are some changes to the women’s selection, with three representatives from the Poços de Caldas club making their debut . The squad, coached by the man from Trinidad, Anthony Joseph, is as follows: Erika Reihehr (c), Karina Gonçalves (vc), Narayana Reinehr Ribeiro, Maria Eduarda Costa, Carol Dela Pace, Elisa Carvalho, Joana Reis, Silvia Vianna Pinto, Lúcia Dutra, Denise Rodrigues de Souza, and from Poços de Caldas, Roberta de Melo Moretti, Renata Dina Souza and Gabriela Crisitina Silva. This could very well be the year the Calangas lift the trophy.

The men’s tournament, SAC XI, comprises five teams, with Mexico making its debut. They are something of an unknown quantity, while the other teams know each others games quite well.

The Brasil selection has a lot of new faces from the team which played in Buenos Aires last in February 2013. A few of the matches in that tournament went down to the wire and this year it is again likely to be a closely contested affair.

The Brasil team is: Greigor Caisley (c), Guilherme Lefèvre, Alexandre Miziara, Fasih Uddin, Hameed Khan, Matt Featherstone, Oliver Ballhatchett, Richard Avery, Vim Akula, Vivek Paranjpe, Yasar Haroon and Zia Khan. Former Peru representative Nick Jones will manage the team. It is a formidable team and one with a very real chance to win SAC XI.

Seleções Nacionais do Brasil Seguem ao Peru

O Campeonato Sulamericano de 2014 será realizado em Lima, Peru, no período da Páscoa, de 17 a 20 de abril. Brasil será representado por sua seleção nacional masculina e feminina e enfrentará as equipes da Argentina , Chile, Peru e México. Esta é a primeira vez que os dois torneios serão disputados simultaneamente. Todos os jogos serão disputados no formato T20. A seleção do Brasil tem muitas novas caras da equipe que jogou em Buenos Aires no último fevereiro de 2013. Alguns dos jogos naquele torneio foram até a última bola e este ano é novamente provável que seja um caso muito disputado.
