Players trained in the social projects of Poços de Caldas were invited to the Brazilian team that will compete in the South American Cricket Championship in Buenos Aires, Argentina, this weekend. Yesterday afternoon, they left the headquarters of Associação Atlética Caldense towards São Paulo. The trip to Argentina started at 11pm and the arrival in Buenos Aires happened around 6am today. The South American will be played in the under-13 and under-17 categories and the coach is Englishman Matt Featherstone.
“We are still celebrating the title of the girls who were South American champions recently and I believe very much in the potential of these boys who go to Argentina with good chances of being champions too. They are training very well, playing very well and are at a very high level. Of course, just because they are in the selection representing Brazil is already a cause for celebration, they are already champions, because the level they present shows that everything they have done so far has already worked. In the field we will fight for the title and that is what we want, however, if it is not possible to bring first place, they will certainly come back with a great experience and ready for the next stage ”, said Matt Featherstone.
The South American championship starts this Saturday. Brazil trains on Friday and officially enters the field on Saturday, Sunday and Monday. The return to Brazil will be Tuesday. In addition to Brazil, Argentina, Mexico, which was invited, Chile and Peru, also compete in the championship. All 26 summoned are part of the social projects carried out in Poços de Caldas.
“The level played in Poços de Caldas is so high that athletes from other locations, such as Rio de Janeiro, São Paulo, Brasília, are not following our players in these categories. All this thanks to the always very important partners that help to make cricket in Poços ever bigger. I want to thank Hotel Minas Gerais, the Sports Incentive Law and Hotel Minas Gerais, for the support of the city hall, DME, Housing and Citizenship of Caixa Econômica Federal, Associação Atlética Caldense, ICC – Cricket World ”, said Matt.
