Central Contract for Women’s Cricket Team in 2020
This decision was taken by the Brazilian Cricket Association as part of the new strategic plan for the growth of Cricket in Brazil.
The decision is to have 14 female players on a central contract, giving them the opportunity to train and play 5 times a week, under the guidance of the national team coach, to be ready for the next ICC women’s tournament table.
The results of the last five years show that the development of women in Brazil is bringing results for high-performance players and for the national team. The Women’s Cricket Team won 4 of the last 5 South American Women’s Championships, a fact that was not possible before Brazil invested heavily in greater participation and greater structure in Cricket for courses for coaches, improving development paths and increasing leagues national levels at all levels.
“We know that Brazilian girls have the ability to play at higher levels, we are just going to give them the opportunity. I really think that the women’s team has the potential to put Brazil on the map globally. This is a very exciting time for Cricket Brasil. ”
Matt Featherstone, President of Cricket Brazil.
