On the last 28th, a competition involving girls from eight projects in the city took place in the cricket field of the south zone in Poços de Caldas. About 75 girls from Casa do Menor, Lar Crianca Feliz, Bem Viver, PMJ Santa Maria, PMJ São Sebastião, Casa do Caminho, Galpão das Artes and Colégio Municipal participated in the event, with the teachers responsible for the event being Richard Avery and Alexandre Felippe. The athletes from the Poços de Caldas team and the Brazilian team also made up the teams to encourage and teach the sport to the new athletes – each team had an experienced player to help the newcomers. The Black Shirts monitors, the most experienced, were also present to help.
“This is a project to bring the female audience to cricket, as we want to form the Baby Pandas team (which would be related to the female selection of Poços), to create a new generation of players”, said Roberta Avery, who highlighted the excellent level event technician. “We had a lot of girls with a lot of potential, however, the best thing is that we had a very happy day, a lot of fun between them and that is fundamental for us”, completed Roberta.
Some of the girls who played in yesterday’s event will participate this Saturday in a friendly against the U-15 team, which is in preparation for the National Women’s Championship, a competition that will take place on April 7 and 8, with the participation of the Pandas the Cricket Poços de Caldas and the team of São Sebastião Cricket Club, the Corujas.
