Poços de Caldas, MG – The Poços de Caldas cricket team, nicknamed ‘Os Pandas’ due to the black and white uniform, is competing this weekend for an important competition in Brasilia. The local team is coached by Englishman Matt Featherstone and was formed with students from the various projects that are carried out in the city.

Yesterday ‘The Pandas’ held their last training session before the competition in the capital of Brazil. The activity took place in the society football field of the Associação Atlética Caldense. “We brought together the best players from the city’s projects and formed a good team to play in this tournament,” said Matt Featherstone.
The competition will be played on Saturday and Sunday and will have teams from Poços de Caldas, and the Brasilia team. There will be male and female games.

Matt Featherstone is largely responsible for bringing Cricket to Poços de Caldas. This year the city’s projects complete three years and, according to Matt Featherstone, the sport has grown a lot in this period. “Each year the level of athletes improves and this makes me immensely happy,” he said. The players who will go to Brasília left the projects of Jardim Kennedy, Parque Pinheiros, Vila Rica, Centro, Colégio Municipal and Caldense. Matt expects a good test because the Brasilia team is one of the most traditional in Brazil.
